And I Thought Soap Operas Were Just For Grown-Ups!

Hello future readers!

You're probably wondering what the title of this entry means, aren't you? Well, Lemme tell ya...

Remember when we had the Christmas dance, and I mentioned that Kim might have a crush on Danny? She's been acting really weird lately. Like for instance, on Friday at school...during Gym class, we were playing basketball. Kim, Danny and I were on the same team. I was open, and standing right near the basket, but Kim would only pass the ball to Danny.

It's been raining for the last few days here in Springfield, and we haven't been able to go out on the playground, so the teachers gave us a special assembly so we could watch films. Groovy! So we lined up and walked down to the auditorium. I was the line leader, so I sat down first. I was saving a seat for Kim, but she wanted to sit next to Danny.

Danny was already in the row behind us, so Miss LaSalle said Kim should sit next to me.  Kim didn't seem very happy about that. I asked her what was the matter with her, but she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about.

Later on in the lunchroom, I opened my lunchbox and saw that my mom packed extra Twinkies for me! Outta site!

I gave part of one to Stephanie, and I was just about to give another part to Kim, but she was already talking to Danny. She offered to share her cupcake with him.

Danny told her no thanks, 'cos he already brought a cupcake. By the look on Kim's face, you woulda thought she lost her best friend, (which happens to be me!). I asked her what was wrong, and she just mumbled "nothing". I still gave her half of my Twinkie to cheer her up. I don't think it worked.

As I was leaving the lunchroom., Danny stopped me and asked me if I would talk to Kim. He knew she kinda liked him, but he didn't like her that way, and he didn't wanna hurt her feelings. Since Valentine's Day is coming up, he didn't want her to give him some big, mushy Valentine in front of everyone in our class and embarrassing him. I couldn't blame for that. I know I wouldn't want some boy giving me a big, mushy Valentine either. I told him I'd talk to her.

So after school. I invited Kim over. We got kinda wet from walking home in the rain, so we got cozy under a blanket on the couch, ate some Jiffy Pop, and rapped.  I told her that I knew she liked Danny, and that he liked her, just not like a girlfriend or anything. I explained that we all thought of Danny as a brother. He was pretty groovy, as far as boys go, and would really like to be friends with her, if she'd let him, but she shouldn't get carried away. She was kinda sad, but she understood.

Then  Kim told me she was sorry that she had been ignoring me lately. She was just really gone over Danny, and wanted so much for him to like her. I told her it was no big deal. I told her if David Cassidy ever showed up in Springfield, I'd probably ignore her, too. We had a good laugh over that one. *giggle* Then Kim said she'd just stick to drooling over Foster Sylvers, (he's a singer), and forget about wanting Danny for a boyfriend. I agreed that was probably the best idea she's had all week! Man, is this what it's like to be a teenager? If it is, you can have it! I'm happy just being 9-years-old!

Until next time, future readers,
Your friend,
Julie Newman

  1. I'm glad you could work that out with Kim nicely. It can be difficult when the guy you like doesn't like you the same way.

  2. I'm glad too! I was so afraid of hurting her feelings. I know being the new kid isn't easy, and none of us want things to be weird between Danny and Kim. We're all such good friends who are always there for each other, and the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing would just ruin everything.
